Recognized For Commitment To Taking Sustainability Seriously
Vycom, a market-leading manufacturer of highly innovative plastic sheet products, is proud to announce that it has received the SGIA 2020 Sustainable Business Recognition Award for its ongoing commitment to stewarding sustainable practices that support a circular economy. The awards were announced by SGIA on April 22, 2020, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.
Vycom was presented with the award for its efforts toward responsible consumption and production with its Recycling Take-Back Program announced in October 2019 at the PRINTING United exhibition. This novel program will capture and recycle printed and unprinted PVC sheets, as well as scraps and drops from finishing and fabricating. The program is intended for end users of PVC, PE and Acrylic products – in coordination with authorized distributors for supporting drop-off and collection – to recycle used signage and other scrap. Material is returned to Vycom facilities and recycled into the company’s various products, ensuring scrap does not end up in landfills, but is rather repurposed into long-lasting, functional performance products.
“We are very excited by the recognition of SGIA’s Advisory Council on Sustainability, Safety, Health and Personnel for appreciating our progress and recommending this award,” said Kevin Duffy, Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Vycom. “With our Recycling Take-Back Program, we’re assuming a leadership position in starting the discussion, partnering with key stakeholders and building recycling programs that didn’t previously exist for the specialty graphic industry. Vycom and its affiliates are committed to being good stewards of the environment. This includes implementing programs to responsibly manage plastic waste.”
SGIA Sustainable Business Recognition Program
As companies are increasingly aligning business practices in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to optimize their contribution to a sustainable future, SGIA created the Sustainable Business Recognition Program to recognize those member companies that have contributed to its mission. This collection of 17 goals and 169 targets serves as a universal platform for monitoring impact and harmonizing sustainability initiatives. The purpose of these goals is to eradicate the world’s most devastating challenges. While there are 17 goals, SGIA encourages companies to focus on three specific SDGs: #3 Good Health and Well-Being, #8 Decent Work and Economic Growth and #12 Responsible Consumption and Production.
“Businesses have an extraordinary opportunity to make a positive impact on sustainability,” said Marci Kinter, SGIA Vice President of Government Affairs. “We encourage our members to follow these best practices and are extremely proud and continuously impressed with the impact they have all made, and continue, to make in this space. We applaud Vycom for its efforts towards this cause and are proud to present them with this prestigious award.”
